About Us
Independent Business & Project Services
DJG & Associates is an independent niche business and project advisory services organisation established to meet the needs of clients in planning, developing, and managing the execution of projects in Australia. DJG incorporates the long experience of its Directors and Associates in the development of resource and process industries, urban and rural infrastructure and property development projects in Australia and globally.
During our ten years of operation, DJG has undertaken assignments and provided advice to clients in industries and situations where focussed and confidential independent advice is often required. Often, senior management face complex issues requiring experience and ways of thinking that complement in-house resources, or where an independent view may be of value to management and/or the board. DJG can provide this support.
How to Use DJG Services to Achieve Your Aims
Our services usually start off with a small number of DJG Principals with experience relevant to the Client’s issues. These DJG Principals would typically review the Client’s situation, meet key management and operational personnel and review any previous work and documentation. The status of approvals and commitments and scopes of work, ongoing time schedules and project budget estimates would be assessed. Client objectives and policies, internal and external resources available or already involved, and setting deadlines for action are usually part of the initial engagement of DJG with a Client. Then, DJG will make an initial response as to an approach and priorities for consideration, and a staged work program for consideration by the Client.
Often, after an initial period of engagement by DJG with a Client leader or small client team, DJG will facilitate and lead a form of workshop engagement with key client people and a small number of independent professionals if required, with relevant background in the issues. DJG would structure the workshop, prepare an outline of issues and risks, internal and external factors, schedule, and initial budget constraints to be agreed with the Client’s representative. The objectives of the workshop process is to define priorities, analyse how differing views can be reconciled, develop one or more plausible courses of action, and setting a way forward. The aim would be to achieve a degree of “ownership” by key people within the Client so that resources can be focused. The timeframe can often be short to get to an agreed way forward, and allocation of clear responsibilities.
The advantages of this process include that issues can be raised by DJG as independent experienced “outsiders”, discussed openly in confidence, and priorities revealed or reinforced. From this process, which can often be undertaken in a short time frame with the right people, a way ahead can be set to examine preferred options. Usually, Client managers would be the leaders of key tasks, within time and budget constraints. A small steering committee could be established to oversee these next steps and report findings and progress and to seek continuing support from owners, boards or higher levels of authority.
Subject to the outcome of these start up processes, the DJG team is available to continue through project set up and execution in roles to help cover Client interest, and to complement Client resources and the project organisation. The ongoing roles can include DJG as client representative, steering committee member, study team member, adviser on specific issues, contract review or project management depending on the Client’s specific requirements.
The DJG Team
DJG people bring multi-disciplinary experiences to issues. Our people all have experience as clients themselves, and in senior project director, financial and technical roles. This experience spans large and small projects and industries, and business change situations including having been on both sides of mergers and acquisitions. We find that successful approaches in one industry can be relevant to another.
Our experience in project approvals through all levels of governments in all states of Australia allows DJG to provide independent and realistic advice as to process, key issues, risks, costs and timelines. We have particular experience in environmental management and approvals, and in cooperation with government agencies. We help to build awareness of the objectives of other involved stakeholders including community and indigenous groups and other important stakeholders whom the Client must take into account to achieve outcomes in line with Client objectives. If needed, DJG can assist Clients in submissions to governments, scoping, briefing and managing other external consultants and experts, all with a budget and value for money awareness.
Core Team of Experienced People
DJG comprises a small Core Team of experienced people, led by founding Managing Director John Gillett and Projects Director Geoff Piggott. John and Geoff have worked together at senior levels in projects and businesses in Asia and in Australia for over 25 years. Their base locations in Victoria and New South Wales are complemented by a pool and network of other highly experienced Associates with all States experience and their own global and Australia-wide experiences.
Through DJG, John and Geoff are supported by a team of Associates who work on assignments and projects according to client needs for specific expertise. Thus, DJG provides clients and individuals with highly experienced resources to achieve specific outcomes. DJG is also able to identify and source other specialists from its network who may not be readily known to or able to be recruited directly by a client for what may be a short or specialist input, and integrate this knowledge into the project solution. Through their experience in assembling multi-disciplinary teams in Australia and globally to deal with complex problems and projects, DJG can assemble people quickly to meet the needs of clients. Where appropriate, DJG can help a client to scope, carefully select, brief and manage if required, other external consultants and specialists for individual assignments.
